In English our learning will cover both fiction, non-fiction and poetry. We will focus on the following texts:
Poetry - What a wonderful world
Fiction - The magic porridge pot
Non-fiction - Instruction text
Grammar - Capital letters, full stops, adjectives, conjunctions.
Phonics will be taught 3x a week to differentiated groups. Children in Year 2 are working on phonics phases 3-6.
Guided reading will be taught 3x a week to differentiated groups. Children may read books on a higher level at school than those they take home. This is because we would like children to build their confidence when reading at home whilst focusing on their fluency and comprehension.
In maths this term we will cover: place value, adding and subtracting numbers with both 1 and 2 digits. The children will also be learning how to read scales as well as studying capacity, weight and money.
Keeping Healthy - The children will be exploring how and why it is important to keep our bodies as healthy as we can.
In year 2 we incorporate outdoor learning into our regular teaching. We aim to plan opportunities for children to learn outside once a fortnight.
Our History topic this half term is World War One, where we will be focusing on the role that animals, children and women played during the war. We will also be looking at remembrance and ways in which we remember the soldiers today.
In the second half of the term, our Geography topic will be 'Around the World'. During this topic, we will be learning about the continents and oceans of the world.
In French this term, the children will be learning basic French skills as well as looking at the topic 'families'. French learning in year 2 is taught orally through songs and games, the children are not yet expected to record anything on paper in the French language.
Art / Design Technology (DT):
In the first half of the term, our art topic will be linked to our history work looking at World War One. The children will be creating a silhouette scene, peace posters as well as using clay to make a poppy.
In the second half of the term, our DT topic will be cookery. The children will be planning and creating some delicious delicacies over the half term.

In the Autumn term, our topic is 'Being me in my world', this involves exploring what responsibility means to us and discussing how we make the right choices.
In the second half of the term, we look at 'Celebrating Differences' and explore how we are all unique and how we can accept and celebrate our differences.Physical Education (PE)*/Games:
